Some good reasons to teach at The Academy of Music
Private Teachers - How the Academy Supports You:
- Teachers are not forced to keep non-practicing students. We want our professional faculty to have studios they enjoy teaching. Retention is important but not all important. Teachers are encouraged to drop consistent non-workers.
- Teachers are not required to make up lessons missed by students. Missed lessons are held to a minimum in this way. Teachers are paid in all cases.
- At the Academy, teachers just concentrate on teaching. There is virtually no paperwork, timesheets or other administration to deal with.
- Teachers never have to talk money with students.
- Teaching spaces are cleaned regularly and stocked with well-tuned pianos, metronomes, sound systems, sight-reading material and sharpened pencils.
- Monthly student recitals organized by the staff offer teachers ample short term goal opportunities for their students.
Teachers are encouraged to offer monthly performance classes for their students which can be used however the teacher wishes. Unlike many schools, teachers are paid for these classes.
Honors Competitions and yearly Jury Evaluations promote student practice.
To Join the Academy Private Faculty: Please email your resume to . We are looking for very good musicians with demonstrated success teaching privately. All prospective teachers must be able to handle early level teaching. However, not all teachers must have advanced repertoire teaching experience. Excellent early level teachers are welcome to apply and may be certified for teaching through the Sonatina level.
Group Piano and Early Childhood Classes:
- No class planning. Each class is pre-planned for you although your are free to modify as you see fit.
- After initial learning period, there is very little class preparation time needed.
- Excellent training before you actually begin teaching classes.
- Faculty support is vital. Our experienced teachers help new teachers.
- Classes are fun and fast and the children love them.
- Parents are in class with the children. Parents learn with the kids.
- No sibling policy keeps the classroom focused.
- Homework assignments printed by the staff and always ready.
Qualifications: Since these classes are general music classes build around the piano, piano skills at the Sonatina level at least are needed. A medium to strong singing voice is also necessary. Most important is an energetic, fun spirit.
Early Childhood Music, Off Campus, Part-Time
Our Off Campus Early Childhood Music program is expanding. We currently provide over 600 daycare/preschool students our fun and enriching curriculum.
We have an immediate opening in the Northern Virginia area. Will train and provide clients to someone possessing magnetic personality/presence who loves to enrich youngsters. Minimal keyboard experience necessary.
